I created this grade system to help inform my students of their level, provide them with motivation, and celebrate their progress. The system spans from Grade I (complete beginners) to Grade XV (students preparing for undergraduate cello auditions), and combines elements of the most effective cello methods, including Suzuki, Colourstrings, ABRSM, and more. Each grade contains scales and arpeggios, etudes, and standard cello repertoire spanning the Baroque period to present day.

In this book you will find a list of all of the materials needed for each grade, as well as what is required to graduate. Sheet music is not included. You can find sheet music for the scales and arpeggios in my accompanying Cello Scales and Arpeggios eBook.

When the student has completed all fifteen grades, he or she will have a strong foundation in technique, theory, and expression, and be prepared to take auditions for conservatories or music schools if desired. However, this grade system is also well suited for those who are not taking college auditions, including students who want to learn music as a hobby, adult beginners, and anyone else who would benefit from a structured and efficient way to learn the cello.
